Corrections policy.
Reckon republishes public regulatory records and computes figures from them. Records can be transcribed wrong, attached to the wrong facility, or read out of date, and a computation can carry a bug. When any of that happens we want to hear about it quickly, and we publish the fix where the error appeared.
How to report an error
Write to corrections@reckonindex.com. Include as much of the following as you have:
- The address of the page where the error appears.
- The community or facility name, and its state license number if you know it.
- The exact figure, sentence, or record you are disputing.
- What you believe the correct value is.
- The source that supports it: the inspection date, the state document, or the agency record we should be reading.
A request that names a source document is resolved faster, because we settle every dispute against the regulator's own record rather than against recollection. Operators may write to us directly. A correction request from an operator gets the same treatment as one from a family or a reporter, and the outcome depends on the source record in both cases.
What we commit to
- Acknowledgement of every correction request within three business days, from a person who has read it.
- A decision within ten business days of that acknowledgement, checked against the source record. If a dispute depends on a response from the licensing agency, we say so and send a status update on the same schedule instead of going quiet.
- Published, dated corrections. When we are wrong, we fix the page and publish a correction notice on that same page, dated, stating what was wrong and what it now says. The notice stays up permanently.
- No silent edits. A published figure that changes carries the notice explaining the change. Anyone who cited the earlier figure can see exactly what moved and when.
- The same answer to everyone. We do not remove an accurate record because it is unflattering, and we do not have a private channel that produces a different outcome.
What counts as an error
We correct anything that makes our page disagree with the source record or with itself: a citation attached to the wrong facility, a misread date, an arithmetic or computation error, a stale figure presented as current, and missing context that changes what a number means.
Where the state's own record is the thing in dispute, we cannot change the agency's file. In that case we note the dispute on the page, state plainly what the state record says and what the operator says it should say, and point you to the office that maintains the record. When the agency updates its file, our next refresh picks up the change and we note the date it landed. How the records are collected and scored is documented in the methodology.
Corrections to published reports
A published report keeps its numbers as published unless they are wrong. If a figure changes, the correction appears in a dated Corrections block on the report itself, with the original figure quoted inside the notice, so anyone who cited the report can see what changed. Reports are revised in place at their permanent address rather than reissued at a new one, so a link in a story or a memo keeps working and always shows the corrected version.
About Reckon
Reckon is an independent publication of the senior housing licensing record. We compile what state regulators already publish, compute the same measures for every facility we cover, and give the result away free. Our reports may be quoted and cited with attribution. No advertising. No referral fees. No money from the industry we cover.
